Phenolic preparation that disrupts the cell by denaturing the cell protein. More effective against gram positive than negative bacteria. Little or no effect on TB or viruses. Its activity is reduced by the presence of organic material and blood as well as alcohol and household soaps. It can be absorbed through the skin and can cause neurotoxicity. Use only in special circumstances.
Pneumonia that develops in a patient within 90 days of residing in any healthcare environment including but not limited to nursing homes, ambulatory surgical centers, hospitals, long term care facilities.
